Nano Fiction Daily Dare 2013

We dare you to write a story based on a picture provided by us, using no more than 55 words.
The story title should have no more than 7 words.

The first edition of the Nano Fiction Daily Dare started November 1, 2012, as a sort of NANOWRIMO for 'Flash Fictionistas', with NANO meaning 'a really short form of fiction', instead of 'NAtional NOvel'. :)

    A retired ventriloquist, now just a tired clown, lit a cigarette and waited for the night to end. He had seen his ex-wife buying popcorn earlier. Beside her was his son. Even without his clown mask, his son would no longer recognize his face. He still kept the puppets in his closet at home.
